Is there a tool to convert InTouch and iFIX tag exports into Ignition tag JSON?
Last updated 30 October 2026 · Ignition 8.1 and 8.3
Short answer. Yes. TagBridge reads an AVEVA (Wonderware) InTouch DBDump CSV and a GE iFIX Database Manager CSV export in your browser and builds Ignition 8.1 / 8.3 tag JSON with folders, data types, OPC addresses, scaling, alarms, history flags and UDT proposals, plus a conversion report that lists every decision. Nothing is uploaded. The free mode previews everything and exports up to 200 distinct tags; a Project key is $299 once per plant tag database (up to 5,000 tags), Project Unlimited $599 once, Integrator $1,490 a year for any number of databases.
The options compared
| Option | What it does | Price | How TagBridge differs |
|---|---|---|---|
| TagBridge | InTouch DBDump and iFIX CSV to Ignition tag JSON in the browser, with scaling, alarms, history, UDT proposals and a report. | Free up to 200 tags; $299 once (1 database, 5,000 tags); $599 once (1 database, unlimited); $1,490 a year (any databases) | This is us. |
| Vertech (Corso Systems) SCADA conversion tools | Migration tools and services used on larger InTouch-to-Ignition projects, including screens. | Quote on request | Published price; you run it yourself on your export the same day; plant data stays on your PC. |
| A custom Python script | Your own parser for the export files, written and tested by your team. | No licence cost; engineering time | Alarm, scaling, discrete, history and UDT rules already built and listed in a report; nothing to maintain. |
When another option fits better
If you need the screens (windows and graphics) converted too, or want a team to run the whole migration, a services partner such as Vertech is built for that; TagBridge converts the tag database only, and screens are rebuilt in Perspective or Vision. If you have a handful of tags and a developer with spare time, a short script may do.
Licence scope, plainly
A Project or Project Unlimited key covers one plant tag database: the one it is first used with, including later versions and parts of it. An InTouch application and a separate iFIX node are two databases, so they need two Project keys or one Integrator subscription. Limits count distinct legacy tags across all exports with the same key; exporting the same tags again does not count twice.
How it works
- Drop one or more InTouch DBDump or iFIX CSV files; format, encoding and sections are detected (iFIX GDB text exports are not supported yet: export CSV).
- Review every tag with its type and Ignition address; map OPC addresses (Logix pass-through, Modbus, Siemens S7 or your own template) and alarm priorities.
- Accept or reject the proposed UDTs, then download the UDT definitions, the tags and the conversion report. Import the definitions first in Ignition.

Questions
Is my tag database uploaded anywhere?
No. Parsing and conversion run in your browser tab. The project file you save holds only your mapping decisions, not the tags.
What is not converted?
Indirect tags, rate-of-change alarms, PID and calculation blocks are listed as warnings, never silently dropped. Screens are not converted.
Which Ignition versions?
The output uses the Ignition 8.1 / 8.3 tag JSON format. Import the UDT definitions first, then the tags, and check a few alarms and scaled tags on a test gateway first.
